AMTD has always been committed to supporting talent development, covering a variety of social backgrounds, especially caring and supporting children's learning. In addition, we also attach importance to the knowledge upgrading of professionals and the cultivation of financial technology talents . We work together with the Hong Kong Polytechnic University ("PolyU"), through the excellent academic status of PolyU and the strong industry network of AMTD, to jointly support and cultivate the next generation of financial technology leaders to maintain the continuous development of financial technology and support Hong Kong as a gathering place for financial technology talents in Asia and even the world.

Building on the successful collaboration to establish the first FinTech school in Hong Kong - AMTD FinTech Centre of PolyU School of Business (“PolyU-AMTD FinTech Centre”), PolyU and AMTD have agreed to further establish a long-term partnership for the FinTech industry, including the establishment of the AMTD-PolyU FinTech Awards and other FinTech-related projects. This collaboration was established earlier by PolyU, AMTD Group, AMTD Digits and AMTD Foundation through a virtual signing ceremony.

The AMTD-PolyU FinTech Award aims to recognize promising FinTech scholars from top universities, as well as top FinTech entrepreneurs with the greatest social impact and best vision, who actively promote the development of the FinTech community and ecosystem in Hong Kong, Asia and even the world.

Other plans include collaborating with PolyU, AMTD and the University of Waterloo on research in cybersecurity and blockchain, establishing AMTD Fellows for PolyU’s FinTech PhD programme to reward and support outstanding applicants, establishing a FinTech Leadership Programme to nurture future FinTech leaders, and collaborating with the Asian Financial Technologists Association (IFTA) to develop training programmes for the FinTech community.

The PolyU-AMTD FinTech Centre will also collaborate with PolicyPal, a leading Singapore-based insurance technology company and a subsidiary of AMTD Digital, and a renowned global accounting firm to publish an InsuranceTech White Paper, focusing on analyzing the pain points of the traditional insurance industry, the industry’s growing demand for technological innovation, and the major trends in global insurance technology development.

Professor Jin-Guang Teng, President of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University , said, “PolyU is pleased to further build on its long-term partnership with AMTD, which aims to nurture innovative leaders and outstanding entrepreneurs, as well as fund research and technological development to enhance Hong Kong’s capabilities and promote the Greater Bay Area’s position as a leading international fintech hub.”

Dr. Calvin Choi, Chairman of AMTD Group and Chairman of AMTD Foundation, added, “We are delighted to further deepen our collaboration with PolyU to promote the development of the fintech industry in Hong Kong and the region, and to support and nurture innovative talents and future leaders.”

Dr. William Tong, B.B.M., JP, President of AMTD Foundation and Chairman of AMTD Digital, said, “There is a severe talent shortage in the fintech industry. This collaboration will help fill the talent gap and cultivate elites in society.”

Professor Zheng Dazhao, Dean of the School of Business, said, “In addition to the theoretical and academic knowledge provided by university professors in the FinTech PhD programme, we look forward to the experts and partners provided by AMTD to share their practical experience and insights in the field, in order to cultivate global FinTech talents who excel in both theory and practice.”

Calvin Choi, Chairman of AMTD Group, was invited as one of the officiating guests and co-hosted the opening ceremony of the PolyU 80th Anniversary Dinner with the Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Carrie Lam, and the Financial Secretary, Paul Chan.
